CHRIS EUBANK JR SET FOR BLOCKBUSTER CANELO ALVAREZ FIGHT AS AGREEMENT CLOSE

Chris Eubank Jr is now seen as the favourite to face Canelo Alvarez, with the Mexican's next opponent set to be announced in the coming days. ESPN has reported that Eubank Jr could even be confirmed as his next fight this week with them said to be 'close to an agreement'.

Eubank Jr has been looking to face Alvarez ever since his win over Liam Smith in September - avenging his loss by way of an impressive knockout in the 10th round in his last outing in the ring.

Now 34, Eubank looks to be coming toward the business end of his career with an impressive 33-3 record, with the former world middleweight champion stating why the Mexican should be looking to face him. In recent years, Alvarez has faced a number of British boxers, beating the likes of Smith, Rocky Fielding, Billy Joe Saunders, John Ryder and Amir Khan.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Eubank Jr said: "Canelo goes where the money is and I can't think of any bigger money fights than me versus Canelo. I know he wants to fight in the UK. It's a huge market. There's not many guys there that people would like to see fight more than me and Canelo Alvarez."

Eubank added: "It's hard to target him. You can't target Canelo Alvarez, whenever he wants to come and fight, he'll fight. He'll look at the options and do what he wants.

"He does make the rules. He does what he wants. He moves up in weight. He comes down in weight. He holds belts in different divisions and he does all the things that other fighters could just never do."

The British star would be a huge underdog if the fight is made official, with Alvarez only losing twice in his career - one coming against Dmitry Boviol who he moved up in weight to fight, and the other to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Alvarez has been linked with a rematch against Bivol, but the Russian is focussed on facing countryman Artur Beterbiev for the light heavyweight championship - looking to unify the division.

Eubank Jr had previously been in talks of facing Conor Benn, with their fathers being rivals in the 1990's - but the fight was called off after Benn had tested positive for a PED.
