ENGLAND NEXT MANAGER: TEENAGER APPLIES TO REPLACE GARETH SOUTHGATE WITH FIVE BOSSES INTERESTED IN JOB

A college student has applied to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager, with five bosses believed to be keen on the job at the current moment in time.

Southgate opted to resign from his post earlier this month, with the 53-year-old walking away less than 48 hours after his side had been beaten by Spain in the final of Euro 2024.

The FA put a job advert out on their official website inviting candidates to apply for the post.

The country's governing body say the right candidate will 'lead and develop the team to win a major tournament and be consistently ranked as one of the top teams in the world'.

Eddie Howe and Graham Potter are two of the frontrunners to take charge.

But Isabelle, a college student from Crowle, has applied for the position as well.

Speaking to the BBC, the 17-year-old said: "They might turn around and say 'you've not got what we're looking for' but anything is possible.

"I don't have a UEFA pro licence but I told the FA they could help me get one and I've not managed a Premier League team but I talked about the skills I have to develop the players.

"I've managed teams before and have done coaching at college. I also told them how I'd have changed the squad for the Euro final."

Isabelle says she 'maybe' would have changed the formation during England's 2-1 defeat to Spain on July 14.

Goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal consigned the Three Lions to defeat, with Cole Palmer's goal not enough on the night.

Isabelle also shed light on why she wants to be a coach, insisting she likes helping and encouraging people.

"When I was younger I played football but I snapped my wrist at school and stopped playing as much," she continued.

"I prefer the coaching side because I enjoy it a lot more anyway.

"With coaching, I enjoy seeing people put their skills to the test and help them adapt to get better.

"People who might not think they're good, I'll encourage them and help others make friends in the sport."

There are five candidates who are interested in the job at the current moment in time.

Howe is one, though it seems unlikely he'll leave Newcastle for a role in international management at this stage of his career.

Potter has indicated he's eager to return to management, with the former Brighton and Swansea boss on the market since his sacking from Chelsea back in April last year.

Thomas Tuchel, who is a free agent after leaving Bayern Munich earlier this summer, also has interest in the position.

And the same can be said for Mauricio Pochettino and former Germany boss Joachim Lowe as well.

England have confirmed they're ready to appoint an interim boss if needed, with Lee Carsley in the frame to take over on a temporary basis.

The Three Lions are next in action against the Republic of Ireland on September 7 (5pm).
