FULL EXPECTED 36-TEAM CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LINEUP FOR NEXT SEASON AS ENGLAND MISS OUT ON FIFTH SPOT

The 2024/25 Champions League is set to look radically different to anything seen before.

UEFA have already confirmed major changes to Europe’s premier competition. It will see 36 clubs compete in a wide-ranging league table.

Teams will now play eight matches in the group stages - with the top eight in the league table earning an automatic spot in the knockout rounds. Those extra games have invariably seen an expansion to the competition.

Four further sides will earn spots next term. One place will go to a club that finished third in the fifth-strongest league, while another will go to a domestic champion who has progressed through qualifying.

Meanwhile, further invitations have been extended to leagues who have the best performing sides this term based on UEFA coefficient points. That has already been confirmed as Italy and Germany - who will each have five clubs representing them in the competition.

In the Bundesliga, those sides have already been confirmed as Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart. While in Italy, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Roma, Atalanta and Bologna will play in the Champions League.

The news will be a bitter pill for Spurs to swallow. The North London side were aiming to take advantage of a fifth spot to return to the competition.

Instead, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa look highly likely to be the Premier League ’s representatives next term.

The Spanish league can also boast an extremely strong crop despite losing out on a fifth spot. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Girona look likely to be playing in the Champions League next season.

Some of the other contenders will more than likely include French giants Paris Saint-Germain. They have secured a place in this season’s semi-finals so will look to go one step further in the reimagined Champions League.

There is of course still plenty of work to do to decide the rest of next season’s participants. Regardless, take a look at how the pots could look ahead of the 2024/25 draw according to the highly respected Football Rankings:
