NEW EVERTON SIGNING IS A LIVERPOOL FAN BUT EXPLAINED WHY HE HAD TO REJECT REDS MOVE

Jesper Lindstrom has sealed a transfer to Everton - just months after snubbing a move to his boyhood club, Liverpool.

Lindstrom, 24, emerged as a target for the Toffees this summer with Sean Dyche keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

And the Denmark international, an attacking midfielder who only joined Napoli in last year's summer transfer window, will now turn out for the blue half of Merseyside.

However, Lindstrom has made no secret of his affiliation with Liverpool in the past - even if he did turn down the chance to move to Anfield last summer.

Speaking back in September 2023, Lindstrom revealed that he had been approached by Liverpool over a potential transfer as Jurgen Klopp sought to rebuild his options in midfield, only for the player to turn down his dream move.

He revealed at the time that concerns over first-team opportunities were behind that decision in interview with Danish newspaper Tipsbladet, saying: “It was Liverpool and I am a Liverpool supporter, so it would’ve been a madly fascinating experience, but would it have been an intelligent move?

“If I don’t play, then I may as well sit in front of the TV and watch them play there while I am at a different club. I am at an age now where I have to play football.

“This is why I think Napoli represent a good change. It is one of the best clubs in the world and they said I will have many opportunities to play.”

While Lindstrom has long admired the Reds, he didn't to be too downhearted at the prospect of playing for Liverpool's arch-rivals after finalising his move, which could become permanent next summer per an option that Everton hold.

He said: “I feel very good. It’s amazing to represent Everton. This is a big club, with big history, a good stadium and, as I’ve seen, very good facilities as well. I’m very, very happy to be here and I feel like this is a good fit.

“I actually heard of Everton’s interest a while ago – not only from now but previously. England is very similar to Denmark so I will feel at home quickly. The people have been very nice and very humble. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
