WEST HAM UNITED INTERESTED IN DEFENDER NEARING END OF HIS DEAL

West Ham United are reportedly interested in Manchester United‘s Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the right-back enters the final year of his contract.

New West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui will be keen to improve his squad ahead of the new season. One position they are rumoured to be looking at is a new face at right-back, which if pulled off would see Wan-Bissaka return to London after leaving Crystal Palace to join Manchester United in 2019.

What do we know about West Ham’s interest in Wan-Bissaka?

West Ham’s interest in Wan-Bissaka was confirmed by Sky Sports Dharmesh Sheth via his X (formerly Twitter) account. Dharmesh said Wan-Bissaka was one of a number of right-backs the club were looking at this summer.

Dharmesh did also confirm that Manchester United aren’t actively looking to sell Wan-Bissaka nor are there talks ongoing to extend his current deal that expires next summer.

Wan-Bissaka’s contract status could play in the favour of West Ham, as Manchester United might opt to cash in rather than lose him for free.

How did Wan-Bissaka do last season?

Wan-Bissaka played 22 times for Manchester United this season in the Premier League. Although he predominately played right-back, he did fill in at left-back a handful of times as he covered for the injured Luke Shaw.

In those 22 games, he had an average rating of 6.75 according to WhoScored. This rating has him ranked as the 8th best player this season for Manchester United according to WhoScored.

Defensively, he performed well averaging 1.9 tackles per game, 4th in the team’s ranking. He also completed 1.9 interceptions per game, which was the most of any Manchester United player in the Premier League.

Wan-Bissaka averaged more tackles (1.9) and interceptions (1.9) per game compared to Coufal who averaged 1.8 tackles and 1.2 interceptions.
