LANDO NORRIS RAGES AT MAX VERSTAPPEN AS RIVALRY EXPLODES WITH AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX CRASH - 'LOSE RESPECT'

Lando Norris has fumed after being forced out of the Austrian Grand Prix following a collision with Max Verstappen on Sunday.

The McLaren star attempted an overtake on the 66th lap but collided with his Red Bull rival, who was able to finish fifth.

Norris was in contention to win the race, with George Russell eventually going past the chequered flag to secure glory.

And Norris, speaking to Sky Sports, has now vented his fury after being forced to withdraw from the big event at the Red Bull Ring.

Before the race, the McLaren driver said there was 'respect' in their rivalry.

But, when asked if he felt the same way now, Norris suggested he would potentially lose that respect if his rival didn't front up and take the blame.

"It depends what he says" he stated. "If he says he did nothing wrong then I'll lose a lot of respect for that.

"If he admits to...being a bit stupid and running into me, being a bit reckless in a way, then I'll have a small amount of respect for it.

"But it's still a tough one to take when you're fighting for the win."

When asked how he felt, Norris admitted he was 'disappointed'.

He believes he performed well and insists it wasn't his fault he missed out on a second Grand Prix race win of the season.

"I don't know, disappointed, nothing more than that," he said.

"Today was a good race, I looked forward to a strong fair battle but I wouldn't say that's what it was in the end.

"It's a tough one to take. It's a mistake-free race from my side and I feel I did a good job, so nothing more than that.

"There's a rule. You're not allowed to react, you're the driver, what's what he did three times out of three.

"Two times I managed to avoid that, yeah... not going to run into it then the third time he ran into me.

"I'm trying to enjoy my race, he was clearly a lot slower in the end. He ruined his own race as well as mine.

"Nothing more I can do. I did my best.

"I was good enough but it got ruined through not my own fault."

While both Norris and Verstappen will be disappointed, it was a great day for Russell.

And the Mercedes star said he was 'proud' after securing victory for the team.

"Incredible. It was a tough fight out there at the beginning of the race just to hold onto P3," he said.

"I saw Max and Lando were going pretty hard and I knew Lando would want that win.

"The team have done an amazing job to put us in this fight. You've got to be there to pick up the pieces and that's where we were.

"They [Verstappen and Norris] were going for it. I couldn't believe how close we were to Lando and Max.

"We were only about 12 seconds behind and I knew it [the collision] was a possibility. You are always dreaming.

"Just so proud to be back on the top step. We have made so many strides since the start of the season.

"The last few races have been incredible. More to come."
