NEWCASTLE UNITED OFFER £70M FOR MARC GUEHI AND WILL NOW WALK AWAY IF NOT ACCEPTED - SKY SPORTS

Sky Sports have now reported that Newcastle United have offered £70m for Marc Guehi.

They say their information is that the bid is £65m guaranteed plus £5m in potential future add-ons.

This would break the current club record paid for Alexander Isak, which was £63m in total, £59m plus £4m add-ons.

However, Sky Sports say that their information is that Crystal Palace have so far refused to accept this offer to finally get the deal done.

Keith Downie covers NUFC on behalf of Sky Sports and he says this is the final offer from Newcastle United and will now walk away if Palace don’t quickly accept.

Keith Downie of Sky Sports reporting – 29 August 2024:

‘Newcastle are set to walk away from their long-running pursuit of Marc Guehi — after growing tired of negotiating with Crystal Palace.

The St James’ Park club have offered a club record £65m + £5m in add-ons for the England international, but Palace owner Steve Parish has so far refused to accept.

The deal is not dead in the water, but I’m told the situation “isn’t good” with Newcastle chiefs feeling they’ve made a brilliant offer.

Newcastle United Sporting Director Paul Mitchell had been desperate to land Eddie Howe’s no.1 summer target, hence the huge offer that sits on the Palace table.’

This news follows widespread reports (see below) earlier this week, saying further intensive talks had taken place in recent days to try and reach agreement.

The Mag report – 28 August 2024:

Is this the final trigger for Marc Guehi to join Newcastle United?

With a fifth bid for the England defender set to be successful?

This morning it was revealed by i-news that agreement was understood to be close for Marc Guehi, after intensive talks had stepped up on Tuesday to close the relatively small gap with a compromise between what Newcastle United had offered (£65m including £5m future potential add-ons) and what Crystal Palace had been holding out for (£70m including potential future add-ons).

With a compromise formal fifth bid from Newcastle United in between those two figures, set to be agreeable to Palace.

Now an exclusive (see below) from the very reliable David Ornstein at The Athletic has revealed that Crystal Palace have reached agreement with Wolfsburg for their right-footed central defender Maxence Lacroix. A deal of around £18m, including a guaranteed transfer fee of £15.2m.

Could this be the final trigger to at last see Marc Guehi heading to Tyneside, with the 11pm transfer deadline on Friday rapidly approaching?

Ornstein says that personal terms have still to be agreed but very very unlikely that these will be a problem, with Premier League wages so much higher than the typical ones paid by Bundesliga clubs.

The Athletic report from David Ornstein – 28 August 2024:

‘Crystal Palace have agreed a fee to sign defender Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg.

Palace will pay an initial €18million (£15.2m; $20m) for the 24-year-old, with a potential €3m due in add-ons. The Premier League side have not yet agreed personal terms with Lacroix.

The deal for Lacroix comes amid uncertainty over centre-back Marc Guehi’s future at Palace. The England international has been the subject of multiple bids from Newcastle United.’
