WIMBLEDON PRIZE MONEY 2024: HOW MUCH ARE TENNIS PLAYERS NETTING PER ROUND?

Wimbledon is set to get underway on Monday, with men's champion Carlos Alcaraz being drawn against Estonian ace Mark Lajal in his first round encounter, while ladies' champion Marketa Vondrousova faces Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in her opening match.

Andy Murray, meanwhile, will take on 37th seed Tomas Machac, with fellow Briton Emma Raducanu being drawn against Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The Wimbledon stars will have an extra incentive to reach the latter stages of the tournament this year after All England Club chiefs increased total prize money by nearly 12 per cent to £35,884,000 across the gentlemen's and ladies' singles. And Express Sport takes a look at the prize money on offer for each round of the competition.

Wimbledon first round prize money

Men and women both earn the same amount of prize money during the Championships, and players who lose their opening match of the tournament will still net themselves a cool £60,000, with a total of just over £3.8million being ring-fenced for first round losers.

Wimbledon second round prize money

Players who are knocked out in the second round of Wimbledon will be handed £93,000, with just under £3m being locked away in total for the stars.

Wimbledon third round prize money

Should the tennis pros be sent packing in the third round, they will be rewarded with £143,000 for their endeavours throughout the tournament. A total of nearly £2.3m has been put aside for the 64 players across the men's and ladies' singles tournaments who make it that far.

Wimbledon fourth round prize money

Wimbledon organisers will pay out just over £1.8m to the athletes who lose in the fourth round. That means the 32 players who are dumped out just before the quarter-finals will each see their bank balances increase to the tune of £226,000.

Wimbledon quarter-finals prize money

Losing Wimbledon quarter-finalists will bag themselves a cool £375,000 - not a bad payday for their five matches. All England Club chiefs have a total of £1.5m in their budget for those players.

Wimbledon semi-finals prize money

The heartbreak of missing out on a place in the Wimbledon final may be dampened by a payment of £715,000.

Wimbledon runner up prize money

The man and woman who reach the showpiece event but miss out on the trophy will bag themselves £1.4m. The figure is over 19 per cent more than the fee offered to the 2023 runners-up.

Wimbledon winner prize money

When the champions are eventually crowned, they will both receive a whopping £2.7m. That figure is almost 15 per cent more than Alcaraz and Vondrousova were given when they lifted the respective trophies last time around.
